Stage Curtains and Auditorium Drapery

Stage and Auditorium Curtains & Drapery

If there's one thing we know, it's stage curtains. For over 30 years, we've been manufacturing stage curtains and drapery for schools, theaters, performing arts centers, television studios, colleges, houses of worship, trade shows, corporate events, and more. Austrian or Venetian curtains, Kabuki drops, backdrops, cycloramas... however big or small, our Stageperts will help bring your ideas to life. We think our work speaks for itself but take it from our customers.

All of our curtains and draperies are fabricated in-house to meet your needs, specifications, timeline and most importantly, budget. There are lots of things to take into account when planning your stage or auditorium curtain project. We've listed the most important things to consider below.

Types of Stage Curtains

The diagram at left shows a typical stage curtain layout. Your stage layout may be different but this is a good place to start. Stage Curtains can be categorized into three types: proscenium or main curtainsmasking curtains, and backdrops or cycloramas.

Theatrical Fabric Flame Retardancy

Theatrical Fabric Flame Retardancy

As you can probably imagine, fabric is flammable. Some theatrical fabrics, however, have inherent flame retardant characteristics, while others can be made to be flame retardant with chemical treatment. Federal regulations require that theatrical fabrics hung in theatres and other venues be flame retardant. Learn more about flame retardancy ratings.

Stage Curtain Track

Hanging Stage Curtains and Auditorium Drapes

Stage curtains can be hung in a variety of ways. They can be tied to pipe or be made with webbing and grommets so they may be hung from stage curtain track with drapery hardware. Curtain track can be straight or curved, ceiling mounted or suspended, motorized, rope-operated, or walk-along (hand-pulled). While your stage's individual curtain track installation may differ, 280-Series track is typically used for main stage curtains, 170-Series for the back, and 140-Series for curved applications. Planning for and purchasing stage curtain track for your stage or theatre should be done with the help of one of our Stageperts to ensure the safety of your crew and performers.

Stage Curtain Finishes

Stage Curtain Finishes

A stage curtain needs to be finished on the sides and bottom as well as the top. For example, scrims and cycs are sewn with a pipe pocket at the bottom so they can be weighted and ultimately hang straight; stage curtains are sewn with weight tape to achieve the same result. Your stage's individual requirements will determine how your stage curtains are hung and how your curtains are ultimately finished.

The two most common finishes requested are sewn with 50% fullness and 3" box pleats or flat. Usually, the main, valance and back curtains are sewn with 50% fullness and scrims and cycs are sewn flat.

Curtains hung from pipe are typically finished with webbing, grommets and ties, while curtains hung from track are sewn with webbing, grommets and s-hooks.
