Acoustic and Sound Absorbing Curtains
What are sound absorbing or acoustic curtains?
Acoustic curtains and sound absorbing curtains are essentially sound absorbers used for control of reverberation or unwanted echo typically occuring in places with hard surfaces like studios, rehearsal spaces, performance spaces, nightclubs, restaurants, and conference rooms. These curtain panels can be installed as a static element, or hung on track so they can be moved in or out of the space.
What factors are important when planning for sound absorbing or acoustic curtains?
Arrangement, fabric weight, lining, and fullness as well as distance from reflective surfaces will all have an effect on the amount of sound absorption obtained. Generally, it is recommended that sound absorbing curtains be made of heavier weight velours which are rated for sound absorption, sewn with 100% fullness, and lined.
Can acoustic or sound absorbing curtains block noise completey?
Curtains are generally not recommended or used to stop noise transmissions. In cases where exacting acoustic absorption is required, please consult a professional acoustic consultant. However, in many cases, with careful planning, acoustic curtains or sound absorbing curtains can be a functional and elegant solution for your nightclub, black-box theatre, rehearsal space, performance space, house of worship, or restaurant.
