Muslin

Muslin is a tightly woven fabric used for painted scenery backdrops or lighting bounce drops. It is either FR (fire retardant) or NFR (non fire retardant) in cotton and IFR (inherently fire retardant) in poly. Both cotton and poly muslin come in a variety of widths and colors. Traditionally, a muslin drop, if it is to be seamed, has the seams running horizontally. Muslin is also used for covering flats. If you plan to paint on your flat or backdrop, you may want to consider using NFR muslin. FR muslin is chemically treated to be flame retardant and the moisture in the paint may cause the chemical to seep up to the surface, leaving a white salty stain on the fabric and distorting the color or image you are trying to paint. By using NFR muslin, you can either add FR chemicals to your paint or sizing mix, or spray the finished product with a surface treatment FR chemical. Look through the tables below for particular sizes and finishes. See our catalog for pricing or contact (link to contact page) our Sales staff with product and availability questions.
